Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Foton Motor electric trucks have entered large-scale industrial operations in Kenya following the deployment of 15 units at Browns Plantations Kenya’s operations in Kericho.

The deployment is a component of a larger 30-truck electric fleet initiative that was started in collaboration with NCBA Group and ElandX.

The trucks provide lower-emission transportation and industrial mobility across the agricultural and logistical activities of Browns Plantations in Kenya's highlands.

According to Browns Plantations, the deployment represents one of the biggest shifts in electric mobility within Kenya's agricultural industry. The vehicles are built for heavy-duty tasks and difficult terrain.

Over 60% of its electricity now comes from company-owned renewable energy systems that run on solar and hydro power, with the remainder supply coming from Kenya's national grid, which is mostly renewable.

Browns Plantations' aerial ropeway conveyance system, which currently helps lower fuel use in certain areas of its operations, will work alongside the fleet of electric trucks.

The corporation wants to become carbon neutral by 2040 and switch to entirely company-owned renewable power by 2030.
